After months of discussions with former foster youth around the country, we identified 6 central principles that highlight how the foster youth community would like to be perceived. Instead of being utilized to tell the public how to perceive them, the Foster Leaders Code of Leadership guides current and former foster youth in SHOWING the public how the foster youth community would like to be perceived.
Each individual who represents Foster Leaders in their respective community has committed to growing in the 6 principles. Understanding the adversity-filled backgrounds of most of our representatives, we do not expect anyone to be able to exhibit these principles 100% of the time. Consequently, we do not kick anyone out of our network for falling short of the expectations attached to the 6 principles, as long as they are continually trying to grow in the principles and learn from any mistakes they may make.
